Featured Design – Maumee Bay Kitchen & Bath Center
This Cardell Featured Design is a kitchen designed by Melissa Hartman of Maumee Bay Kitchen & Bath Center in Holland, Ohio.
The kitchen features two of our newer door styles. The kitchen perimeter is Nantucket II Maple Full Overlay finished in a Natural stain with a Brown Glaze. The kitchen island is Newport II Maple Full Overlay finished in our Ebony stain.
These door styles share a dual vertical-vein running the length of the door front, created when the door panel is joined to the door stiles with a mortise and tenon joint. The difference being that the Newport II has a slab-like appearance, while the Nantucket II door has a flat panel inset into the frame.
These door styles give the kitchen an International style presence. International style is a derivative of Modernist architecture that focuses on the stylistic aspects of Modernism; it stresses the expression of volume and balance, minimizes the use of applied ornamentation, and adapts glass, steel and rock materials.
Notice how the cabinet moldings are used to great effect by joining the tops of the wall cabinets to the ceiling to support the architectural choice and make the cabinets stand out as the kitchens predominate feature.
This architectural style works fantastically in this kitchen to maximize counter space and kitchen appliances in a limited space. The steel and black colors of the appliances are beautifully accented by the cabinets. The choice of the Natural stain and Brown Glaze on the Nantucket II cabinets complements the darker colors of the appliances, countertops and island by both contrasting and harmonizing the darker hues simultaneously. The addition of the induction stove into the island is both visually appealing and an effective way to regain cabinet storage space.
The side wall contains a bank of wall cabinets that have been modified with our Cut for Glass (CFG) modification so that they can showcase select pieces of glass and dishware. The way that the modified wall cabinets use an inset depth, compared to the sounding cabinets, in order to create a cascade effect is an effective way to draw attention and an elegant touch.
The International style also blends very well with the Contemporary style of furniture that has been chosen for the barstools, rugs, light-fixtures, kitchen table and chairs.
